Social media extrimacy reminds me a little of the hairdresser syndrome where people feel more comfortable sharing their secrets with their hairdresser rather than a family member a close friend.
There is something very true about this example. However, the hairdresser barely shares his deep, deep personal stories to a new client (whereas in the examples of the visual map, digital individuals might do so). I feel like it’s a human truth, to reveal something to a complete stranger, accelerated a lot through social media. Reminds me of Lost in Translation movie too.
